I just bought an '86 Savage with 7300 miles on it. I would like to improve the performance a little...on a budget! I checked the carb for the brass plug mentioned here and was a little confused. On the right (exhaust) side of the carb, there is an opening with a recessed brass set screw, which I'm assuming is the mid-range adjuster that someone else was kind enough to expose for me. On the left (belt) side of the carb, there is what looks like a brass bearing inserted halfway into a small port. Am I wrong about the set screw being the adjuster? Also, I know that the 'right' idle is determined by sound, but without having a lot of experience with this bike, what's the right way to adjust the mid range carburetion?
